If you enjoy basketball, want to become more involved in the game, or are looking for a new challenge, officiating is a great way to get involved and no previous experience is required.
New Officials Wanted!
We would especially like to encourage anyone who has ever thought about becoming a basketball referee to give it a try this season.
There are many different levels of basketball that require officials, providing opportunities for people with a wide range of experience. New officials can learn the fundamentals of officiating and gain experience as they become more comfortable on the court. Those who are interested can continue developing and progress to officiating higher levels of basketball.
You don't need to know everything about officiating before you start. Training and support are available to help new officials learn the rules, positioning, mechanics and game-management skills needed to get started.
Returning Officials — We Want You Back!
If you have officiated basketball in the past but haven't been on the court recently, we would love to have you come back.
Returning officials are an important part of our basketball community. Your experience not only helps ensure that games can be played, but also provides valuable support for younger and newer officials as they learn.
Whether you refereed last season or it has been a few years, you're invited to join us for the 2026–27 season.
Zone 6 Basketball Officials Preseason Clinics
All returning officials and anyone interested in becoming an official are invited to attend the Zone 6 Basketball Officials preseason clinics.
The clinics will be held virtually from 8:00–9:00 PM on:
- Wednesday, October 21
- Wednesday, October 28
- Wednesday, November 4
You can access the clinic through the following link: Zone 6 Basketball Officials Preseason Clinic
The clinics are an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season, review officiating principles and expectations, and help new officials begin learning what they need to know before stepping onto the court.
Why Become an Official?
Officiating is another way to be part of basketball. It gives you the opportunity to stay active, develop a much deeper understanding of the game, build confidence and communication skills, meet other people involved in basketball, and earn some extra money while contributing to the sport in our community.
Most importantly, officials are essential to basketball. With many different levels of games taking place throughout the season, we need people willing to pick up a whistle and get involved.
